If it is to be, it is up to me.

Through my years of teaching, we would teach our students this saying.  We would help and guide them to realize that life wasn’t about standing on the side lines, waiting for something great to be handed to them.  To realize that life was a gift.  One to be seized.  Every moment of everyday.  To not just see that something needed to be done, but to actually take charge and get it done.  That if they had a dream of doing something or saw something that wasn’t right, that it was up to them to step up to the plate, even if it meant they were alone, and make things happen.

As we get older, the reality of life seems to seep in.  Our childlike faith, and even our dreams, seem to fade away as if it were a distant  memory.  We begin to stand on the sidelines of life, looking at all the wrong being done and the bad going on, wishing and praying that God would just make those things disappear and set those people straight.  Many of us probably feel like, or dare we “wish”, there was so much MORE that you could do to help, but keep looking at the remaining balance of our checking account, praying that the balance would double, or dare we ask for triple?  Then we would feel comfortable about helping our neighbor out who can’t even put food on the table, our brother halfway across the world who is too sick to stand and can’t afford the medicine he needs to get better, or help an entire community drink clean water.

Or maybe you just don’t know where to start?  The problem is too big, I can’t make a difference, someone else is more talented to handle that.  Whatever the excuse is, whatever negative thoughts roll through your mind, I challenge you to this one small act.

WOH has had the privilege of being a part of something new.  Something BIG.  A “Game Changer” in changing the world for good.   It’s called Pure Charity.

This non-profit takes ordinary people like us who buy from powerful companies in corporate America and it turns our every day purchases into something good, benefitting amazing non-profit projects to help people in need.

Pure Charity doesn’t encourage you to spend more money, rather it harnesses what you’re already spending and puts it to good work. If you buy diapers online, purchase plane tickets, need a new printer, pride yourself as an Amazon Prime member, your clicks count.

If you’d like to change the world with your giving, here’s how to start:

  1. Sign up for a Pure Charity account. If you’re on Facebook, you can sign in through that, or create an account the old fashioned way…just an email address.
  2. Install the browser plugin. This will make it so a Pure Charity icon will pop up when you’re browsing particular stores online (like Target, Apple, even Groupon). If you purchase via the pop up, a percentage of your sales will feed into your charitable giving account. (You spend $, then make $, then give $).
  3. Register your main credit card with Pure Charity. This is the no brainer part of the process. Every time you use your credit or debit card at one of their participating merchants, you receive a percentage of your purchase into your giving account.
  4. Now, browse the projects (there are many) that you could potentially fund. To start funding, add your own funds to the account (via bank or debit/credit card).  All funds that you put into your giving fund are tax-deductible.
  5. Support your favorite project. (You can change the amount you support…it starts with $5 increments…by clicking the dollar amount and changing it.) These are time specific projects with a set amount of $. If that project doesn’t fund by the finish date, Pure Charity refunds the money back into your giving account so you can turn around and help fund a different project.
  6. Share it with friends! There’s a strong social connection to this, where you can share buttons and widgets with your friends and followers, to generate interest in a cause you’re passionate about within Pure Charity and the projects.

That’s it! Pure Charity will be participating in Generous Tuesday (the Tuesday after Black Friday)–a time for you to rebel against crazy consumerism and make the world a better place through generosity.

“We are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.” Eph. 2:10

It all starts with doing something, taking action.  If it’s going to be a better world, it is up to YOU to take a small step.  Take this small step in making our world a better place for all.  Sign up for your own Pure Charity account, shop through the network of over a thousand retailers, and earn funds to give to projects all over the world.  And let’s give hope together.
